Garden Design & Construction

Garden Design Overview

A beautiful garden enhances the appearance of your property and improves your environment.

The Garden Design Department offers imaginative design ideas. Our schemes vary from small to large and from traditional to contemporary. Gardens of all shapes & sizes are undertaken. Whether you are requiring a complete new look, renovating a neglected space or creating a new feature, all enquiries are welcome.

Careful design and construction of a garden results in lasting pleasure. The originality and style of our gardens have won awards at events such as Gardeners World Live, Southport Flower Show and Holker Hall, as well as the consistent appreciation of our many clients.

The services offered range from a professional sketch to a full design service – whatever is necessary to create your garden!

To bring the plan to reality we also offer a full construction service. Hard and soft landscaping is carried out with professional supervision and expertise. This department has its own teams of skilled landscapers who work closely with the designer.

Barton Grange Landscapes have constructed all the gardens featured on this website and we welcome all new enquiries however large or small your project may be.

Designer Profile

Lenore Boothby has worked as a Garden Designer for Barton Grange Landscapes since 2000.

Her professional career started at a plant nursery and from there she went on to study Horticulture at Askham Bryan College in York followed by a degree in Landscape Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Since then she has worked in both the public and private sectors.

She became a full member of the Society of Garden Designers in November 2005. The society of Garden Designers is the only professional body in the UK dedicated solely to garden design.

In 2005, Lenore received an award from Bali for a contemporary garden.

Lenore has an unconventional style, which, along with her close association with her clients, produces designs of great interest and appeal.

Construction Process

  • Free Visit

A no obligation, initial visit is made to discuss your requirements and view the garden in order to determine a design fee. Also included in this visit is a presentation of the designer’s portfolio.

The preliminary visit usually takes about an hour.

  • Design Fee

The design fee is based on a number of factors that are assessed on the initial visit. The design fee is quoted in writing, and this will be sent to you with an acceptance form after the initial visit.

The design fee is separated into the three areas that make up the design process.

The Design Process in Three Simple Steps:

1. Survey

A detailed site survey is carried out so that a scaled site plan can be produced. For larger or more complex sites, the services of a surveyor may be sought.

At this stage the client is asked for their brief, which can be as simple as a chat, or, if you have a lot of ideas, it is advisable to provide a list, photos or whatever it takes to tell your story!

2. Design Sketch

Draft ideas are presented to you along with cost implications of carrying out the proposed ideas.

Due to the diversity of schemes, this may be one visit or several.

The draft ideas are firmed up into the final plan for your approval prior to the scheme being finalised.

3. Final Plan

Copies of the final plan, along with a cost estimate to construct the garden, are sent to you with the design invoice. An acceptance form for the work accompanies the plan, which needs to be signed and returned for the work to be programmed into our schedule.

Planting plans, construction details, schedule of works etc. can be supplied if required and will be quoted for separately.
