The Barton Grange Group of companies dates back to 1945 when Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Ada Topping purchased a small manor house on the A6 at Barton with plans to turn it into a hotel.
Almost 65 years later, the Group comprises not only a 51-bedroom luxury 4 star Hotel and conference centre, but also the two Garden Centres at Preston and Bolton, a successful landscaping business and three large plant Nurseries.
Barton Grange Landscapes was started in 1957 by Eddie Topping, Edward and Ada's son, and is now being run by Eddie's son, Peter. Through its nurseries business, the group supplies not only its own Garden Centres but also hundreds of other well-known garden centres and superstores across the UK. A fantastic new Garden Centre was opened in March 2008 on a site at Brock, just north of the original site. The stunning garden centre sits alongside a marina and has many special features and attractions that make it a place well worth visiting.
The closure of the existing Garden Centre at Barton will enable the hotel to expand and improve its facilities further still.
The Barton Grange Group currently employs around 700 people on a full time, part time, seasonal or temporary basis with an annual turnover in excess of £20 million.
